Abstract

This work provides a general review of Holotropic Breathwork: its main history, characteristics and therapeutic strengths, in addition to explaining how it works, its typical context, and the therapist鈥檚 role. The author then presents a short summary of a research study on Holotropic Breathwork: a group of 30 people, average age 32, both sexes, answered several questionnaires aiming to understand the psycho-spiritual impact of a typical breathwork session. The results showed no differences in impact between males and females, a general positive emotional resonance emanating from the session and a greater effect for people who had previous spiritual experiences.
