Abstract

Introduction: Social value orientations are defined as a stable personality trait. Solidarity with strangers has been found to be affected by reputation and punishment mechanisms that modify the outcomes of individuals in interdependent games and real situations. Objective: The goal of this study is to investigate social value orientations of individuals who choose to elevate their state of consciousness. Methodolody: The study is conducted in a field setting taking place in an Eco-village in South America, addressing the impact of two events directed at urban citizens. These events include activities such as Yoga, exchange of seeds and ancestral rituals aimed at modifyingthe consciousness of participants. At the end of both events, social value orientations of participants are measured. Results: Results show that participants have a high level of pro-social orientation. Conclusions: The authors discuss important implications of these results.

Resumen

Introducción: Las orientaciones del valor social se definen como un rasgo de personalidad estable. Se ha descubierto que la solidaridad con extraños se ve afectada por los mecanismos de reputación y castigo que modifican los resultados de las personas en juegos interdependientes y en situaciones reales. Objetivo: El objetivo de este estudio es investigar las orientaciones de valor social de las personas que eligen elevar su estado de conciencia. Metodología: El estudio se lleva a cabo en un entorno de campo que tiene lugar en una ecoaldea en América del Sur, abordando el impacto de dos eventos dirigidos a ciudadanos urbanos. Estos eventos incluyen actividades tales como Yoga, intercambio de semillas y rituales ancestrales dirigidos a modificar la conciencia de los participantes. Al final de ambos eventos, se miden las orientaciones de valores sociales de los participantes. Resultados: Los resultados muestran que los participantes tienen un alto nivel de orientación prosocial. Conclusiones: Los autores explican importantes implicaciones de estos resultados.
